Our Story

The Department of Mass Communication (DMC) at ISU was established in August, 2000.

We believe more programs in communication should be established in southern Taiwan to strike a balance between communication programs established in northern and southern Taiwan.

Facilities

The DMC established the “Multi-media Center” that includes radio program production and recording studio, post-production room, control room, darkroom, theater studio, and multi-media lab, and other related facilities built in this center.

Staff

The Department currently has 10 full-time teachers, including 2 Professors, 6 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professor,all are DR-level teacher.

Department faculty are from the renowned universities, in addition to the requirement with rich professional experience.

Students Life

Students learn not only from lectures and tutorials but also from practical and internships. The internships offered to students include fields of Mass Media, Digital Graphic Communication, Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising. DMC provides students with hands-on experience of solving problems for people with effective solutions.

Curriculum

DMC offers a pioneering program through its five options: News Writing and Editing, Public Relations and Advertising, Communication Studies, Radio-TV-Film, and Digital Multi-media.

Future

Our goal is to establish a mass communication graduate school. Combined with other related departments, the University will provide a complete communication education in order to meet the increasing needs for communication talents in southern Taiwan. This goal will enable us to integrate more subtly theory and practice to satisfy the needs of society in Taiwan and Asia.

There are over tens of millions of latest devices available at multimedia centers providing teaching and internship applications.

Sub-control Room

The sub-control room is responsible for controlling all images sound and lighting in studio studios and audio images and sounds are controlled and integrated through the sub-control chamber.
Therefore, The sub-control room is arguably the core of studio recording programs.

TV Studio

Equipment:
3 TV cameras, TV Console, blue screen

Function:
TV Directing, TV program production course,
hands-on practice and digital material production

Webcasting Radio Station

Equipment:
6 Broadcasting studios

Function:
Studio work for broadcasting teaching, practicing and recording
Cooperation with Taiwan Kaohsiung Prison, broadcast for the prisoners

Campus Radio Station

6 Broadcasting studios

iMac Multimedia Classroom

iMac multimedia classroom consists of iMac multimedia computer, LCD projector, digital video display platform, the central control system, projection screen, audio equipment and other modern teaching equipment.

Editing Classroom

Editing classroom consists of 4 computers, supporting interviews and writing, digital drawing, digital editing and layout courses.

Non-linear Editing Room

Nonlinear clipping is a modern splicing way in late production of movies and television. It means accessing any frame in video clips. Its resembles the original use of "scissors" and "splicing" in film splicing.
